Description

First I am not a Painter….apologies for the flaws!!
I am just trying to learn….critiques and comments are welcome.
Needless to say that I have a lot of trouble judging the colors and hues, because colors look so different in my monitors.

You see people of all kind of colors in my country….My own family is a mix of colors…..My father was really white….my mother was beautiful and tan…..My maternal grandfather was very very tan……My wife is white….my dear son Eremita and I are tan..

In my country there is not a hard discrimination of people because of colors….but some people, sometimes, regards being white and blue eyes as a sign of distinction and superiority….
Comunications also has made some people think that being blond is more beautiful….so you see many brunettes with their hairs turned artifitially blond….I like all of them….all colors… but I really would like to remember to them and to myself that “TAN IS ALSO BEAUTIFUL”.
The photos are mine…..and you can see is not a “paint over”
I am also posting the “steps”

What do you mean you're not a painter? That is brilliant!!! Now me, I'm not a painter! HAHA! Great work Carlos! I can't critique because that's a million times better than anything I can paint. I've tried everything from Oils, Acrylics to Watercolors and I flat out have no luck! Keep it up! 9/9

I'm moving to your country with all those Brunettes! And as for blondes, well in the UK we tend to think of them as a bit thick! lol especially the women. OK I DO!

You arent a painter?!?! Well this is bloody brilliant for a non painter.

Disclaimer* That was just a joke about the blondes. Of course if you are brunette you'd have guessed that, but this disclaimer is just for the less intelligent blondes, so they know I am joking.

I AM ONLY JOKING about the disclaimer! God I could go on forever here hahahaha

You never stop to amaze!

This is (and I am not a painter so this comes from my heart...)
really a beautiful portrait.

I really enjoy the steps addition and the reference pictures too.

A very good work!

I just can't understand how you get the time for doing the painting, taking pictures and for commenting on 99,9% of all posts as well...

Your wife must have a lot of patience with you...

Wow, I've noticed this picture pop up in the "Latest Elite Artwork" box several times, but didn't realize it was yours, Carlos.

I'd like to say that it is beautifully painted, full of life--particularly in the eyes--and and overall magnificent portrait...but then I'd sound like everyone else, and we can't have that...so instead...

Carlos, this is the worst painting I've ever seen. Seriously, it hurts my eyeballs.

Carlos, what can I say? You claim not to be an artist, yet here you go painting a piece which would put many to shame!!! I remember well the image of the two boys... and you have captured this young guy perfectly. Most compelling feature... his eyes... the detail and clarity of the reflection brings him to life. Yes, tan is terrific too!

Hi Carlos,

I love the painting but what you need to improve on is the ability to convey the correct sex and age. What I mean is, when I looked at this painting, I thought it was a middle age woman. It's only after I saw the reference photograph that I noticed that it was a young boy. Don't get me wrong the expression is OK, but the sex and age may be slightly confusing. That's what you need to work on.

Avatar Madanapale

 03/31/06 @664

Thanks Dujean I really apreciate your commment...and yes...I was not happy with the age....I am posting a message to you.

Sir Carlos, your versatility is inspiring! With all these comments, I am already lost for words. I hope you don't mind me calling you "Sir" by the way...unbeknownst to you, I consider you as a mentor. All I can hope for is get a small piece of your wisdom (and that is not an easy task) that I may find the "me" as an artist.
Saludos!

Excellent painting Carlos, nearly photo-realistic concerning some parts of it (eyes and stuff). The only thing that bothers me is the part of his mouth, it just doesn't feel right. Somehow it seem to be correct looking at the reference, but I have the feeling it shouldn't be so horizontal lined like it is now. Also his hair looks a little blurred and unfinished in the back, but that could be the caramel background. For the rest I can't find any glitches, hope you'll deliver more pieces of art like this. Thanks!

Avatar ARTOONATOR

 03/31/06 @895

You're a better painter than most of the painters here, really.
The amateur mistakes are mostly visible in the skin areas where colorshifts are subtile and in the hair. The eyes are amazingly alive.
If you enjoy it, please keep it going. :)
