Description

Life seems so short and so long another times.....and there are moments in wich we have to rest, rub our legs,
and then keep walking until the end comes.

I took this picture in Suchitoto, Dec 06, after I saw it I realized that a few months before I have taken another picture
of this lovely lady....at that time we talked to her, she asked to us for some money and then she apologized for begging.
She explained that all her children had died and she had to survive by herself.

I desaturated the background because the sorrounding colors were too distracting.

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK OF A CLOSER PORTRAIT TAKEN A FEW MONTHS BEFORE....

This photo says more then thousand words. At first look it shows she is very sad. Desaturation really is a good solution in this case. I respect your work.

I am a big fan of desat works and this was an excellent piece for doing it!

The characters you capture are full of emotion and moody!

Just love it!

Only technical defect is the overexposure on her right arm imo.

I actually like the portrait better than the 'main' picture... :p The expression in the portrait is just SO STRONG!! Somehow the desaturation does not work for me completeley.... I think lowering the saturation works well (I'm a fan of b&w photos and low saturation myself) but not completeley.... That would be my opinion.

Sea como sea, siguen siendo fotos fantastiscas Carlos! Mucho respeto y admiracion por tu trabajo. :)

I think this would make a wonderful b&w as well

Perfect subject for selective desaturation !
My only crit is to go back to the origional file and see if you can Dodge/darken the side/edge of the arm she is resting accross her knees and remove the overexposed area... other that that its fantastically sad !

YOUR WORK IS A RAINBOW OF EMOTIONS !!

I did try a black and white version but the main subject got confused again with the background......and OK....Patrick and Brian, I will do my homework and look for the original file to try to improve the arm.

Awesome as always Carlos, truly awesome. Again you've captured the essence of someone's soul perfectly. A picture says a thousand words, yours say a million.

This work has depth, in its execution as well as content.

For me this pictures shows the beauty of age in a natural way. For me she represents a natural feeling to her body, even sensual, without the need to push this innocent feel for oneself on a sexual level, which with age (wisdom) does become less important, as the mind is filled with far more exiting things by then. Although I am aware that this is often wishful thinking, as many aged do just get stuck in lives hardship, without ever really experiencing of who we can be and what happiness we are able of.

Can anyone tell me how I can change my e-mail address in the profile section? Everything can be added to but that. An e-mail to GFX did not bring any response.

Very well done desat Carlos. She does now stand out so very well from the grayish background. I do see some white ares around the edges of her face which I find a bit distracting and also the over-exposure on her arm but these are minor. The photo is beautiful.

Your portraits are insightful and poignant, she is beautiful in the same way that a gnarled tree or weathered shoreline is beautiful.

I'm not a fan of this style of desaturation, but the impact is appropriate. There is as much to be said for technical merit as for emotional impact.

Cheers,
Aaron

Jesus christ. Your work always has such an impact. I would love to set up a situation were you have no title, name, or any information about the shot and see what people get from it.

Point is, I always end up question myself when looking at your work instead of questioning you. Which in my book makes you successful.

Thanks for the shot.
