Description

As most of my countrymen I descend from a mix of races, colors and religions, my father was “white”, my mother was “tan”. There is no racial discrimination, but some people regards a “white skin” as more classy or more stylish than a “dark skin”. I think that all colors are equally beautiful.

Part of my bood is Maya, another is Spaniard, another “mestiza” (mixed) and the skin of my maternal grandfather was dark as the color of the black racial groups of Africa. He married my grandmother who was white as the lady of the picture. I recently learned that she descended from Sephardi Jewish of Spain. (Her last name was Castro).

My nanny was a pure direct descendant of the Mayas. I remember her as my second mother. That is why I have a great respect for all races and religions.

Taking pictures of the people of my country is like discovering my roots…..I see again my grandparents, my maya ancestors and when I see a beggar I think that a distant relative may also have been a beggar like him.
Taking pictures has given me a greater insight of myself…..and I can feel a bird singing in my heart.

This picture is dedicated to Patrick Elite moserArtist who recently dedicated a picture to me

Patrick….I certainly hope that some day we can take pictures together!

Picture taken in Suchitoto last year during the “holly week” catholic celebrations.

You have represented three colors in the photo and have made them all exquisitely beautiful. The lavender lace is so fitting for these lovely ladies in the second part of their lives.
I lived with a family for ten years whose Grandmother was a direct Incan ancestor. She would speak Ketchwa for anyone who wanted to hear it. She did not get the attention she should have because in the United States, older people are not always honored, respected, and enjoyed like they are in Latin countries.
Thank you for the sweet and beautiful image, Carlos!!
